- 6 large flour tortillas
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or your preferred protein like ground turkey or plant-based crumbles)
- 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade taco seasoning)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes (drained)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 can (4 oz) diced green chilies (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 cup black beans (optional, for added protein)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for greasing the baking dish)
- Fresh cilantro (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cut tortillas to fit the dish and layer them on the bottom.
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, taco seasoning, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes.
- Spread half of the meat mixture over the tortillas, then sprinkle with half of the cheese.
- Add another layer of tortillas, followed by the remaining meat mixture and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until bubbly.
- Let rest for 5-10 minutes, garnish with cilantro, and serve.

- Protein Alternatives: You can swap the ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or a vegetarian option like black beans or lentils.
- Taco Seasoning: If you prefer, you can make your own taco seasoning by combining chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt. Adjust the seasoning to taste!
