Equipment

  • 1  Large pot or Dutch oven Needed for simmering the chili and cooking the ingredients.
  • 1 Spoon or spatula For stirring the chili as it cooks

Ingredients

  • 1 can 15 oz Bush’s Chili Beans (choose from pinto, kidney, or black beans)
  • 1 lb Ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 medium Chopped onion
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced or chopped
  • 1 can 14.5 oz Diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 packet Chili seasoning mix includes chili powder, cumin, paprika
  • 2 cups Chicken or beef broth
  • Optional Bell peppers for added flavor and texture

Instructions

  • Prepare the Base of the Chili: Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic and sauté until soft and translucent.
  • Cook the Ground Meat: Add ground meat (beef or turkey) to the pot. Brown the meat, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  • Add the Beans and Other Ingredients: Once the meat is browned, add the Bush’s chili beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and broth. Stir to combine.
  • Add Seasonings: Stir in the chili seasoning mix, adjusting to taste. Add optional spices like cayenne pepper for heat.
  • Simmer the Chili: Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let the chili simmer for at least an hour, stirring occasionally. Adjust consistency with more broth if needed.
  • Serve: Serve hot with optional toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or cilantro.

Notes

  • Adjust spice level to your taste by varying the amount of chili powder or adding hot sauce.
  • Consistency can be adjusted by adding more broth for a thinner chili or letting it simmer longer for a thicker chili.
  • Let the chili rest for at least 30 minutes before serving for better flavor.
