Beans and Sauces
  • 1 can (28-ounce) Bush's Original Baked Beans (undrained) You can use any brand of baked beans.
  • 1/4 cup ketchup Adjust according to taste.
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar Consider reducing for lower sugar content.

Vegetables
  • 1 small onion (chopped) Enhances the flavor of the dish.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as you stir.
  2. Drain excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent and fragrant.
Cooking
  1. Stir in the baked beans with their liquid, ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard, mixing well.
  2. Allow the mixture to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. If using a slow cooker, transfer the browned beef and onion mixture, add remaining ingredients, stir, cover, and cook on low for 4-6 hours.

Notes

Serve Cowboy Baked Beans straight from the skillet or slow cooker. Pair with cornbread or crusty rolls for a hearty meal. To prevent dryness, add a splash of water if the beans become too thick during cooking.
