Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with almond flour or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) Can substitute with seeds or dried fruits.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, combining thoroughly.
  5. Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, and nuts (or any substitutes you prefer).
  6. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a unique touch, sprinkle some flaky sea salt on top before baking for an elevated flavor burst. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
