  • 6 slices thick slices of stale Brioche, Sourdough or Challah Loaf Stale bread works best for soaking
  • 3 large eggs Use fresh eggs for better flavor
  • 3 cups milk Use high-quality milk for best results
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor
  • 1/4 cup sugar Can be adjusted to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon For coating the sticks
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided For cooking

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut off the crusts from the thick slices of bread.
  2. Cut each slice into three thick strips lengthwise and set them aside.
  3. In a shallow dish, combine sugar and cinnamon, mixing them well.
  4. In another shallow dish, add the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until fully combined.
Cooking
  1. Soak the bread sticks in the egg mixture for about 30 seconds on all sides.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over low medium heat.
  3. Place the soaked bread sticks in the pan and cook until golden brown on each side.
  4. Use tongs to move the sticks into the cinnamon and sugar mixture, rolling them to coat evenly.
  5. Add more butter if needed and continue cooking the remaining bread pieces.
  6. Serve warm with your favorite syrup or dipping sauce.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. They can be frozen for 1-2 months. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
