Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial-grade matcha powder sifted
  • 1 small piece of kombu seaweed finely chopped or powdered
  • 1 slice fresh ginger or ½ teaspoon ginger powder
  • ½ umeboshi plum mashed
  • ½ teaspoon dried yuzu peel or lemon zest optional
  • 1 cup hot water about 175°F / 80°C
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey monk fruit, or stevia (optional, to taste)

Equipment

  • Small saucepan or kettle
  • Bamboo matcha whisk (chasen)
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Fine sieve for matcha
  • Mug

Method

  1. Heat the water: Bring 1 cup of water to just below boiling (175°F) to preserve nutrients.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a small bowl, combine sifted matcha, chopped kombu, grated ginger, and citrus zest if using.
  3. Add hot water: Slowly pour the hot water over the mixture, whisking with a bamboo whisk until smooth and frothy.
  4. Sweeten (optional): Stir in honey, monk fruit, or stevia to taste.
  5. Sip and enjoy: Drink warm and savor the gentle, calming flavors.

Notes

  • Kombu provides natural iodine; consult your doctor if you have thyroid concerns.
  • Fresh ginger delivers stronger digestive benefits than powdered.
  • Lemon zest or yuzu brightens the flavor and adds extra vitamin C.
  • Naturally vegan, gluten-free, and keto-friendly depending on sweetener choice.
